Independence Day LIVE: Modi’s Warning to Pakistan, New GST & Semiconductor Plan
In a strong warning to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday (August 15, 2025) that India will no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail and will give a befitting reply to its enemies. He also stressed that a “new normal” has been established where no distinction will be made between terrorists and those who nurture terrorism.
A New Era of Resolve
From the ramparts of the historic Red Fort, the Prime Minister gave his twelfth consecutive Independence Day address to the country. Modi stated that Operation Sindoor was a manifestation of the anger the country felt over the Pahalgam terror attack. In the attack, terrorists from across the border brutally massacred people after asking for their religion.
Technological and Economic Developments
Prime Minister Modi announced that India’s inaugural domestically produced semiconductor chip is scheduled to hit the market by the close of the year. The Prime Minister noted that six semiconductor factories were now running and four more had been given the green light during his speech for the 79th Independence Day.
Regarding the Indus Water Treaty, Prime Minister Modi said it has caused significant damage to Indian agriculture. The Prime Minister further stated that the recent attack in Pahalgam highlighted the pointlessness of maintaining the existing pact.
He also pledged a major Diwali present in the form of “next-generation” GST reforms, which he said would substantially lower the tax burden on citizens, thereby providing a boost to small industries and MSMEs.
